In our dreams we sometimes end up in a mental or dream state where it is dark and our fears and worries are in the twilight. This restless feeling fades by becoming silent to let these feelings passing by without filling in. In general, the disturbances only appear in our thoughts. Every day the sun rises and the light shines again with new possibilities.

The “Industrial Landscapes” is a continuous photo series about the aesthetics between nature and industry. There is a contrasting beauty of our natural Earth and the abstract appearance of the noisy industry. We humans often pass these fascinating tranquil landscapes unnoticed. With patience and silence these spectacular scenes will unfold their true raw beauty.
When I am on the road to photograph the natural and industrial, I regularly come across amazing abstract shapes and patterns. Some of these compositions form a landscape in itself, others have eye-catching details or extraordinary contrasts.
This is a 1st preview, more to come ...
My Industrial Landscapes box is now available for view at my Project 2.0 Gallery, www.project20.nl Also a limited fine art selection of my “Industrial Landscapes series” is combined in one exclusive box. And the box includes 1 print (60 x 48 cm including paper white) of your choice from the edition. The selected artwork is finished with a black wooden frame and protected with museum glass.

In Romenia there is a charming but desolate casino from the time of Ceaușescu. The casino is located on a cliff and surrounded by a beautiful promenade overlooking the sea. Both the interior and exterior show the remains of an turbulent and majestic history. There are so many details to enjoy: the beautiful refined shapes and structures and the subtleties of the color palette used. A true beauty and warp back in time!
In the latest edition of Monumentaal you can read an 8-page article about my exhibition in Museum aan het Vrijthof. With extensive information about the photographed locations. MONUMENTAAL is the only magazine in the Netherlands and Belgium about living, working and relaxing in a classical ambiance.

Black coal mountains look mysterious and breathtaking at night. What looks like a volcanic mountain found on some island in the sea, is actually the play of full moonlight reflecting on the hard shimmery particles of black coal. And a layer of white spray is applied by workers as a dust inhibitor, this gives the scene a snowy appearance that is partly visible on these industry-created mountains.
“Just before sunrise and sunset, the light is at its most beautiful. There is something magical about this short period of time. The cinematic feeling of industrial locations is what I capture. Their natural surroundings is where my eyes focus on.” - Jan Stel
